Dover Street Market and New Balance have unveiled a head-to-toe running capsule built around a DSM-exclusive colourway of the FuelCell SC Elite v5, the brand's flagship racing super shoe. The collection, which dropped this week through Dover Street Market's London, New York and Los Angeles stores and the retailer's online shop, leans further into the SC Elite v5's stripped-back, race-day brief than New Balance's mainline launches: the shoe arrives in a deep purple finish without the brand's signature N overlay, and is paired with a panelled windbreaker, an Ultra Light race-day T-shirt and high-cut split shorts.
The shoe is the headline piece. New Balance positions the FuelCell SC Elite v5 as its most advanced marathon-distance racer to date, with a full-length carbon plate sandwiched between layers of PEBA-based FuelCell foam, a stack height that sits on the upper edge of the World Athletics 40mm regulation, and a 1.7mm outsole rubber patch designed to keep the platform light without surrendering grip in wet conditions. The DSM make-up trims a small amount of weight off the standard production model by stripping the lateral N branding and reworking the upper in a lower-density mesh.
The collaboration sits in a curious space. New Balance has run a long-form partnership with the streetwear retailer for years, but the two have generally aimed at lifestyle product rather than racing kit. The SC Elite v5 capsule is the most explicitly performance-led drop the duo have produced together, and it lands as the SC Elite franchise has been expanding its athlete roster. The shoe was on the feet of seven podium finishers across this spring's Marathon Majors and is the racing shoe of choice for the 2026 New York City Marathon women's defending champion. The DSM project is partly an effort to lift the franchise's cultural profile to match its athletic one.
The full capsule retails at GBP 250 for the SC Elite v5, with the apparel pieces priced separately and ranging from GBP 75 for the Ultra Light T-shirt up to GBP 240 for the panelled windbreaker. Quantities are limited and Dover Street Market has flagged the launch as in-store and online only, with no plans to roll the colourway out to wider New Balance retailers. The shoe is not currently scheduled to appear at New Balance's own factory stores or its concept boutiques in Boston and Tokyo.
For racing, the DSM-exclusive shoe runs identically to the standard SC Elite v5: same midsole geometry, same plate, same drop. That makes the capsule appealing to runners who want the brand's flagship racing platform in a colourway that will not show up in the start corral of every spring half-marathon, but the price tag and the limited distribution mean it is unlikely to displace the mainline shoe as the franchise's volume seller. The SC Elite v5 in its standard livery remains in stock at New Balance and major running retailers at GBP 230, with a refreshed colour rotation expected ahead of the autumn marathon season.
