Inov-8 has added a new flagship to its TrailFly range with the launch of the TrailFly Pro, a technical shoe pitched at medium-to-long mountain and trail distances. First shown at The Running Event trade fair, the shoe is designed to balance cushioning, grip, weight and responsiveness in a single package aimed at runners who spend most of their time on rocky, technical terrain rather than smooth singletrack.
At the heart of the shoe is a flexible rock plate combined with Inov-8's Powerflo Pro foam and a Boomerang footbed insole, a stack intended to protect the foot from underfoot hazards while still delivering a cushioned, energy-returning ride over long efforts. The brand has pitched the combination as a middle ground between its lighter, more minimal trail racers and its maximally cushioned ultra shoes.
The upper follows an anatomical last that hugs the natural shape of the foot, locking down at the heel while widening through the toe box for stability on uneven ground. Inov-8 is offering the TrailFly Pro in both standard and wide fits, addressing a common complaint from trail runners who have found some technical shoes too narrow for long days in the mountains.
Underfoot, the shoe uses 4mm rubber studs arranged to aid push-off at the toe and braking at the heel, paired with an upgraded Graphene-Grip rubber compound aimed at improving traction in wet conditions. The graphene-reinforced outsole has become something of a signature for Inov-8 in recent years, and its inclusion here signals the brand's intent to position the TrailFly Pro at the top of its technical lineup.
The launch lands in a crowded summer for trail shoe releases, arriving alongside The North Face's Offtrail Ultra and ASICS's new Blazeblast franchise as brands compete for a growing base of mountain and ultra runners. Inov-8 has not yet confirmed UK or US pricing, but early positioning suggests the TrailFly Pro will sit at the premium end of the brand's range when it reaches shelves.
