The 13th edition of the HOKA Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB runs from 8 to 11 October at Big Bear Lake in California, with the 100-mile race starting at the Rim Nordic Ski Area and the 50K and 100K starting at Big Bear Lake. Nearly 2,700 participants are expected across the 10K, 20K, 50K, 100K and 100-mile distances, plus a kids' race.
This is the event's second year as a UTMB World Series Major in the Americas, and the stakes reflect that status. Runners earn double the Running Stones available at other World Series events, and 210 automatic qualification places for the 2027 UTMB World Series Finals are on offer across the 50K, 100K and 100-mile races. Twenty anti-doping tests are planned across those three distances.
In the 100-mile race, Ryan Montgomery heads the men's list on a UTMB Index of 925, ahead of Adam Loomis (816) and Jhon Barrera of Colombia (807). Addie Bracy leads the women on 749, with Helen Mino Faukner (733) and Jaclyn Noshay (694) behind her. The 100K features Stephen Kersh (875), Gavin Prior (864) and Spain's Jose Angel Fernandez Jimenez (855) among the men, and Germany's Lotti Brinks (803), New Zealand's Juliette Soule (744) and Jenna Bensko (740) among the women.
The 50K has the deepest index lists. Roberto Delorenzi of Switzerland is rated 919, with Eli Hemming of the United States (916) and Spain's Miquel Corbera Rubio (888) close behind. In the women's race Abby Hall (808) is ahead of Anna Gibson (791) and Dani Moreno (769). The 50K and 100K were due to stream live on UTMB Live from Saturday 10 October.
Away from the front of the field, the Renegade collective, delivered with HOKA, supports 31 female runners from minority groups, with 10 in the 100K and 21 in the 50K. The course takes in alpine forest, high desert and rugged canyons, with views over Big Bear Lake and Sugarloaf Mountain, and the finish will shape both the 2027 Finals entry lists and the end of the American ultra season.
