Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend rolls into its competitive build-up on Friday 22 May, with Run Ottawa scheduled to hold its formal elite athlete press conference at 08:00 ET inside the Carleton University Fieldhouse, the same hall that will host bib pickup and the Running and Fitness Expo from 09:00 until 21:00. The eve-of-race assembly draws together the headline names already confirmed for Sunday morning's marathon, including Canada's national record-holder Rory Linkletter, three-time Olympian Natasha Wodak, 2017 world marathon champion Geoffrey Kirui and Canadian distance veteran Malindi Elmore.
Run Ottawa has set the Friday programme as the only on-record opportunity to speak to elite athletes before Sunday's 07:00 ET gun outside Ottawa City Hall. Media credentials open at 08:00, with the press conference itself slotted between 09:00 and 10:00 and a separate athlete photo call on the Confederation Park lawn timed for 11:30. The schedule mirrors the format Run Ottawa used in 2025, when Linkletter ran 2:08:01 to break the Canadian marathon record and Wodak finished as top Canadian woman in 2:30:09 on a course that doubles as the country's de facto national marathon championship.
The 2026 field is among the deepest Ottawa has assembled, with $24,000 on offer to the male and female winners and a published time-bonus ladder rewarding sub-2:07 and sub-2:23 performances. Kirui, who has trained through the spring in Iten alongside training partner Geoffrey Kamworor, headlines an Ethiopian-Kenyan contingent that also includes Boniface Kibiwott and women's pacer-turned-contender Hellen Jepkurgat. On the domestic side, Linkletter will be chasing both the race title and the all-Canadian record bonus a year on from his 2:08:01, while Wodak and Elmore lead a Canadian women's group that has used Ottawa as a Pan-American Games selection tune-up.
Race conditions are looking favourable: Environment Canada's three-day forecast for the National Capital Region pegs Sunday morning at 11 degrees Celsius at gun, climbing to 17 by the time elite finishers cross the line on Elgin Street, with light westerly winds and a 20 per cent chance of light showers. Run Ottawa course officials have re-laid the timing mats at the 21.1-kilometre split on Sussex Drive and added an extra mid-race aid station near Rideau Hall in response to feedback from the 2025 elite group. The 2026 edition is also the first since the World Athletics Label Road Race programme confirmed Ottawa's promotion back to Gold status, which expands the prize-money ceiling and brings additional doping-control coverage.
Beyond the marathon, Race Weekend includes the Tartan Ottawa 10K on Saturday evening, the half marathon, two-person marathon relay and 5K on Sunday morning, and the Lumberjacks Kids Marathon that closes the festival on Sunday afternoon. Roughly 32,000 entrants are expected across the weekend, with the marathon itself sold out for the third consecutive year and a waiting list capped at 1,200. Sunday's broadcast goes live on CBC Gem from 06:30 ET, with international streaming available via the World Athletics platform, and Run Ottawa has confirmed that elite results, course splits and team scores will publish in real time on its app between 07:00 and 12:00 ET.
