Spain won the team title at the 2026 Skyrunning World Championships on La Gomera, finishing with 918 points to Italy's 896 and Japan's 594. The three-day event, held from 18 to 20 September, covered a Vertical race on the Friday, a SkyUltra of around 62km and more than 4,100m of climbing on the Saturday, and a Sky race on the Sunday.

Spain's success rested on consistency across all three disciplines rather than a clean sweep. The hosts took one individual gold and four silvers: Lluis Puigvert won the men's Vertical in 36:37 ahead of team-mate Jose Antonio Bellido (36:50), with Italy's Luca Del Pero third in 37:08. In the women's Vertical, Switzerland's Paola Stampanoni won in 44:34 from the Netherlands' Everarda Van Dongen and Italy's Benedetta Broggi.

The SkyUltra produced the longest day. Italy's Cristian Minoggio won the men's race in 6:12:12, with Spain's Julen Calvo second in 6:19:02 and Andorra's Samuel Ponce third in 6:21:40. Norway's Shangave Balendran took the women's title in 7:27:16, well clear of Spain's Mireia Pons (8:02:51) and American Careth Arnold (8:03:00).

Del Pero completed a Vertical bronze and Sky gold double on a medal haul that kept Italy within touching distance of Spain in the team standings, winning the men's Sky race in 2:43:27 from Spain's Dimas Pereira (2:44:10) and Poland's Dominik Tabor (2:46:52). Poland's Patrycja Stanek won the women's Sky in 3:20:29, ahead of Norway's Eva Simonsen (3:21:05) and Italy's Cecilia Basso (3:25:09).

The championships arrived in a busy fortnight for mountain and ultra racing, sitting between the IAU 100km World Championships and Tor des Geants. For a discipline that often sits in the shadow of the larger ultra-trail circuits, a team result decided by a 22-point margin over three formats suggests a competitive and increasingly deep international field.
