Sound Running's flagship event delivered once again as The Ten 2026 produced a stunning men's 10K race at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California, with German national record holder Mohamed Gebreselama and Australian Ky Robinson trading blows in a finish that rewrote the record books for both nations.
Gebreselama crossed the line first in 26:56.58, a new German national record that moved him into the upper echelon of global 10K road running. But Robinson was right on his heels, clocking 26:57.07 for a new Australian national record — just half a second separating two historic performances. The dual record-breaking finish was the latest in a growing list of world-class results produced at Sound Running's meticulously designed course.
The race unfolded under the warm Southern California evening light that has become synonymous with The Ten. A strong pace group kept the leaders honest through the first half, and by 5km the race had whittled down to a small lead group. Gebreselama made his decisive move with 800 meters remaining, opening a small gap that Robinson could not quite close despite a fierce finishing kick.
Oliver Hoare edged Waleed Suliman in a thrilling men's 1500m race on the same card, with five athletes finishing within just over a second of each other. In the women's 1500m, Gabbi Jennings won in 4:07.69, leading a trio under 4:10 in what was arguably the deepest women's metric mile of the early outdoor season.
The Ten continues to establish itself as one of the most important road races in the world, with its flat, fast course and professional-level organisation attracting top talent from across the globe. Sound Running's model of creating athlete-first racing environments has been widely praised, and the 2026 edition further cemented the event's reputation as the world's premier road 10K.
