Aidan Troutner and Emily Venters both lowered USATF 10km championship records on Saturday 3 October, winning the national titles on Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend in Minnesota. Troutner, a 27-year-old former BYU runner from Utah, took the men's race in 27:40, while Venters, of Salt Lake City, won the women's title in 31:09.

The men's race was decided by the narrowest of margins. Dillon Maggard was second in 27:41 and Ryan Ford third in 27:42, with Reid Buchanan (27:43) and Creed Thompson (27:44) completing the top five. The top six finished within five seconds of one another, and Troutner out-kicked the chasing group in the closing stretch after Joel Reichow had led through the fourth mile. The winning time took the championship record from 27:49, a mark that had stood since 1986. "It was fast," Troutner said afterwards. "People were pushing the pace throughout. I was lucky to come away with the win."

Venters was far more dominant. She won by 48 seconds from Kassie Parker, who ran 31:57, with Allie Ostrander third in 32:02. Amanda Vestri (32:16) and Amy Davis-Green (32:20) completed the top five. Venters' 31:09 beat the previous championship record of 31:40, set by Jess McClain in 2024, and left her within 13 seconds of Taylor Roe's women-only American record of 30:56, also from 2024. She closed with final two miles of 4:56 and 5:00 per mile.

Venters admitted that nerves had been part of her build-up. "This is the most nervous I have been in a while, but I think the nerves carried me through," she said. "I just ran with joy like my mom texted me this morning to do." The USATF prize purse offered $21,500 per gender, with $8,000 for first place, $5,000 for second and $3,000 for third.

The championship record in both races underlines the strength of American depth over the distance this year. It follows a season in which national titles have been contested at pace from the 5km through to the 100km, and it gives both winners a significant result heading into the winter road and cross-country calendar. Twin Cities weekend continues on Sunday with the marathon and the 10 mile events.
